Born in Los Angeles and raised in rural Saskatchewan, Raf Antonio is a queer El Salvadoran artist based in Toronto. His play Salvador: A Latin-Canadian Fantasia won the first-ever RBC Emerging Playwright Award from the Playwrights Guild of Canada. His next work, Rope Running Out, premiered at lemonTree creations and went on to receive a four ‘N’ review from Now Magazine and 12 Broadway World Toronto nominations including ‘Best New Play’. Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council, Raf became an Artist-in-Residence at Cahoots Theatre where he began The Effeminates: A Queer Tale of Bloody Vengeance, with dramaturge Marjorie Chan. Raf is currently developing a new work titled WHITE MUSCLE DADDY with Pencil Kit Productions as The Effeminates continues to its next phase, partnered with lemonTree creations and Theatre Passe Muraille. The episodes he penned for Daytime Emmy® nominated children’s series Miss Persona will shoot in 2020.
