Bio

Of South Asian (Indo-Caribbean) background, Richard is a both a Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) member and the ACTRA Toronto Treasurer.

In the children’s television landscape, he wrote for the multicultural television cartoon “16 Hudson” (TVO), was a story editor for “Miss Persona” (Treehouse), and is an alumnus of the Black, Indigenous & People of Colour (BIPOC) Kid’s TV Writing Bootcamp. Richard also wrote the Caribbean-Canadian short “Maternal” (Winner: Best Short, CaribbeanTales International Film Festival) and co-created/wrote the Chinese-Canadian digital series “Sudden Master” (OMNI/Rogers).

“Kandu Attitude”, the South Asian-Canadian sitcom pilot script he co-wrote, was a Pitch Finalist in Just For Laughs ComedyPRO, a Quarter-Finalist in the Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest, and a WGC Diversity Script of the Month selection. Richard’s acting credits include Jett (Cinemax), Taken (NBC), Kim’s Convenience (Netflix-CBC), Endlings (Hulu-CBC), Incorporated (SyFy) and The Strain (FX).

Additionally, Richard co-spearheaded the Ontario ACTRA Census, an Ontario Creates-funded research project that assessed Ontario screen performer demographics as well as wage and opportunity gaps.

Intro

As a screenwriter and performer of colour, I’m excited to work with artists who are ready to move the dial to make great work that actually reflects our country.
