Bio
Sherren Lee is a film & TV Director born in Taiwan, bred in Montreal and currently located in Toronto.
Named as The Hollywood Reporter’s 2018 Canada’s Rising Stars, Sherren graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University in 2007, is a 2014 alumna of Norman Jewison’s Canadian Film Centre’s Directors’ Lab and was selected as one of Women In View’s ‘Five in Focus’ Directors in 2017.
Sherren directs on Shaftesbury’s Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), Back Alley Films and Muse Entertainment’s Coroner (CBC), Shaftesbury, Pope Productions and BetaFilm’s Hudson & Rex (CityTV) and Sinking Ship Entertainment’s acclaimed series Odd Squad (PBS, TVO), Dino Dana (Amazon, TVO & Yoopa) and Endlings (Hulu Original, CBC). She is slated to direct on Thunderbird’s Kim’s Convenience (CBC) this fall.
Her latest short film The Things You Think I’m Thinking won the Grand Jury Award for Best International Narrative Short Film at Outfest 2018, AWFJ EDA Award at the Whistler Film Festival 2017, the Special Jury Prize at the Canadian Film Festival 2018, two Golden Sheaf Awards for Best Director Fiction and Best Multicultural at the Yorkton Film Festival 2018, the Best Canadian Short Award at Inside Out Toronto 2018 and OutEast Queer Film Festival 2018, has been in competition at over seventy festivals including Slamdance 2018, SXSW 2018, was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick Premiere for its world wide online release in November 2019 and nominated for the Vimeo Best of the Year award in the Drama category. The short currently has over 1.4 million views on YouTube Channel, Omeleto.
Her short film Benjamin was one of four shorts selected to be developed and produced through the CFC Short Dramatic Film Program. The film has screened at TIFF 2015, AFF 2015, Inside Out Ottawa LGBT Film Festival 2015, WIFT-T Showcase 2016 (Best Screenplay Award), Festival Vues d’En Face 2016, Yorkton Film Festival 2016 (Golden Sheaf Award), Seattle International Film Festival 2016, Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival 2016, KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival 2016, Palm Springs International ShortsFest 2016, Stony Brook Film Festival 2016, North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Fetival 2016, Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival 2016 and Miami Short Film Festival 2016.
In February 2014, Lee launched a five episode web series entitled Someone Not There. The series was an official selection at the LA Web Series Festival 2014 (Outstanding Series, Writing, Directing, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor, Score, Sound Design, Cinematography, and Editing), TO Web Fest 2014, Miami Web Fest 2014, DC Web Fest 2014 (Silver Award Winner), Urban Mediamakers Film Festival 2014 (Best Web Series & Best Romantic Web Series) and HollyWeb Festival 2015.
Sherren was the Associate Producer on the hidden camera comedy series for City, Meet the Family with Showrunner Derek Harvie. Her previous experience include working as a Line Producer/Production Manager and 1st AD on various productions, including documentary for TSN, The 13th Man by Larry Weinstein, and documentary series for APTN, Finding Our Talk 3 with Mushkeg Media.
Intro
Sherren is a thoughtful filmmaker who is drawn to stories that further our understanding of each other, and inspire love and compassion for one another. Her work always seeks for truth and connection above all else, grounding her characters as human beings first. She is currently packaging her debut feature drama, With Might and Grace.
