Bio
OVERVIEW
Stephanie Burbano is a queer Latinx multidisciplinary filmmaker, artist, and art director. Her mandate is to create an artistic and filmic language that is an outgrowth of the communities she has sprung from, using the colour and flare from both her background as a first generation Ecuadorian-Canadian and member of the LGBTQ community. She is one half of the art collective K.Bestia. They are currently working on their first feature film, titled TRAPO GORDO.
FILMMAKER: From concept to creation, I make films that rely heavily on queercore, pop art, trash, post punk, and a vibrant Latinx heritage. An explorer of experimentation, I am well versed in analogue film. Magical realism with high drama is the mandate.
ART DIRECTOR: Working from mood boards, I generate ideas and concepts to present to the director. I commission relevant specialists and artists to work on projects, researching then creating, designing, or acquiring needed assets for a film. I manage projects working within a budget, moving towards creating and conceptualizing visual identities within the vision of the film or director.
SET DECORATOR: I work closely with the art director to capture the desired vision of the film; creating mood boards, participating in location scouts and noting the items needed for each location; managing an itemized buying list; sourcing and purchasing items; and managing the art department schedule with a breakdown of prep and shooting days.
